Tsingy de Bemaraha
Melaky, Madagascar
A forest of razor-sharp limestone needles — the word tsingy means where one cannot walk barefoot. Groundwater dissolved Jurassic-era limestone into a labyrinth of 30m-tall stone pinnacles, narrow canyons, and underground rivers. This UNESCO World Heritage Site harbors species found nowhere else, isolated in a geological fortress.
